Hi, I’m Oriah Douglass — an author, fighter, and believer that God can turn even the hardest battles into something beautiful.
I haven’t always been a writer. For a long time, I was just a girl trying to survive things most people couldn’t imagine. I was diagnosed with Shwachman-Diamond Syndrome as a baby, Type One Diabetes at eight years old, and Immune Thrombocytopenia (ITP) at twelve. Each diagnosis brought fear, pain, and countless hospital stays — moments where I truly wondered if I’d make it through. There were times I didn’t want to keep going, when the weight of it all felt too heavy. But even through the darkness, God was there — reminding me that my story wasn’t over yet.
Writing became my way of healing. It helped me make sense of the pain and find light when everything felt dark. My book, The Diabetes Journey, is more than just my story — it’s a message of hope for anyone who feels broken, forgotten, or tired of fighting. I want people to know that they are not alone, that their life has purpose, and that no diagnosis or struggle can take away the strength inside them.
I’ve learned that even the hardest chapters have meaning. The pain I went through became the reason I write — to give others hope, to show them that miracles still happen, and to remind them that God’s love never leaves, even when life hurts the most.
When I’m not writing, I love reading, volunteering, and spending quiet time with God, who has carried me through every storm. My dream is to use my words and my story to help others find their reason to keep going — because if I can make it through, so can you.
